What is a mini tummy tuck?
A mini abdominoplasty, or “subumbilical dermolipectomy”, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that tightens slightly excess skin below the navel.
It is performed when the excess skin is not significant enough to warrant a classic abdominoplasty (with repositioning of the navel). With this technique, the navel is not repositioned and the incision runs below it.
How does the procedure work?
The steps of a mini abdominoplasty are the same as for a full abdominoplasty, except that the incision remains below the navel.
Liposuction is often performed during the same operation to obtain a flat stomach and well-tightened skin below the navel.
What is the recovery like?
Scars
A single scar of variable size, well hidden by underwear. Its final appearance can only be judged after 1 to 2 years (maturation time).
The advantage of a mini tummy tuck is that the incision is made very low on the abdomen, just above the pubis, so the scar is very discreet and easily concealed by clothing.
Post-operative course
The usual bruising and swelling gradually disappear within a few weeks. Post-operative pain is minimal and well managed with painkillers. A compression garment must be worn for about 1 month.

Mini tummy tuck is a simplified and less invasive version of traditional tummy tuck. It consists in removing excess skin and fat from the subumbilical region. Depending on the extent of the operation, the patient may leave during the day or stay in the clinic overnight.

They are uncommon and can be managed promptly by the surgeon during post-operative check-ups.
