What is a facelift?
A facelift (face and neck lift), performed by Dr Maxence Thomas at the Clinique Esthétique Aquitaine in Bordeaux, treats sagging and laxity of the skin and muscles of the face (cheeks, jowls, jawline) and neck, as well as a lack or excess of fatty tissue. The aim of such a procedure is not to change the shape or appearance of the face.
On the contrary, simply restoring the various anatomical structures of the face and neck (skin, muscle, fat) allows patients to regain the appearance they had a few years earlier. The surgeon ensures that the result is as natural as possible.
Before the procedure:
→ A thorough clinical assessment
→ A few additional tests (blood tests)
→ A consultation with an anesthesiologist
→ Stopping smoking
→ Stopping blood-thinning medication
→ Washing your hair before the procedure
→ Fasting for 6 hours before the procedure
How does the procedure work?
The incision is largely hidden in the hair and around the ear. Through these incisions, the skin is lifted; the extent of this undermining depends on each case, in particular on the degree of tissue laxity.
The musculo-aponeurotic layer, called the SMAS (superficial musculo-aponeurotic system), is then re-tightened in a precise and measured way, sometimes during a deep plane facelift, to correct deep sagging, while preserving the natural expression of the face.
In the case of localized excess fat, liposuction or scissor lipectomy is performed during the same operation: it can treat the neck, chin, jowls and cheeks.
Conversely, in the case of volume loss, adding the patient's own fat (lipostructure) often helps to harmonize the final result. A blepharoplasty may be combined with the procedure.
What is the recovery like?
Duration of the procedure
About 2 hours depending on the patient. The procedure may be combined with eyelid surgery (lower and/or upper blepharoplasty).
Post-operative course
During the recovery period, the patient may feel some tightness in the face and neck. The swelling disappears within a few weeks.
What results can you expect?
A facelift redefines the jawline and rejuvenates the neck and cheeks.
How much does it cost?
From €5,950
A detailed quote is given after the consultation. For a cosmetic procedure, French law requires a cooling-off period of at least 15 days between the quote and the surgery.

Under local anesthesia, the procedure is performed on an outpatient basis; under general anesthesia, it requires one night in hospital.
A facelift redefines the jawline and tightens the loose skin of the neck and cheeks to rejuvenate the lower face in a lasting way.
Over time, the skin will inevitably relax again as the natural aging process continues.
Pain after a facelift is mild and can be controlled with common painkillers.
As with any procedure, there are risks, and complications may occur (bleeding, infection, wound dehiscence, scarring problems, neurological disorders, etc.). They are uncommon and can be managed promptly by the surgeon during post-operative check-ups. An information sheet from the French Society of Plastic Surgery will be given to you before the procedure.
