What is a breast reduction?
Breast hypertrophy is defined by excessive breast volume, particularly in relation to the patient's body shape. This excess volume is usually associated with sagging breasts (breast ptosis) and sometimes with a degree of asymmetry. Dr Maxence Thomas treats it with breast reduction surgery at the Clinique Esthétique Aquitaine in Bordeaux.
Breast hypertrophy almost always has physical and functional consequences (neck, shoulder and back pain, discomfort when playing sports, difficulty finding clothes). It also often has a significant psychological impact.
How does the procedure work?
The procedure removes the excess breast tissue. A volume in harmony with the patient's figure and consistent with her wishes is preserved. This remaining breast volume is lifted, concentrated and reshaped.
The skin envelope must then be adapted, which requires removing the excess skin to ensure good support and a nice shape for the new breasts.
The skin edges are then sutured: these sutures are the origin of the scars.
In general, the procedure requires a periareolar scar, a vertical scar and a horizontal scar, forming an anchor-shaped scar.

What is the recovery like?
Post-operative course
The usual swelling and bruising last a few days, with very little pain; a feeling of tightness is felt during the first few days. A compression bra must be worn continuously for at least one month.
What results can you expect?
The result can only be judged one year after the procedure: the breasts then usually have a harmonious, natural shape that is symmetrical or close to symmetrical.
Beyond the local improvement, this procedure generally has a positive impact on weight balance, sports, clothing options and psychological well-being.
→ Reduced back pain
→ Better self-image
→ More freedom in choosing your clothes
How much does it cost?
From €2,250
A detailed quote is given after the consultation. For a cosmetic procedure, French law requires a cooling-off period of at least 15 days between the quote and the surgery.
